The 2005 Dodge Dakota receives few updates, including its increased wheel base, more powerful engine and few accessories. The 2005 version is heavier by 600 lbs than its predecessor model. Production of regular cab body style has been dropped for 2005.

Trims & Features

The 2005 Dodge Dakota is offered in two body styles, Club cab and Quad cab. Quad cab models come with four side conventional doors and 5.3 ft bed, while the other model come with rear hinged back doors that do not open independently and 6.5 ft cargo bed. As far as the seating capacity of the models are concerned, Quad cabs have 6-passenger capacity, while the Club cab have 5-passenger capacity. Standard on all Dakotas include rear wheel antilock braking system, while offers 4-sheel ABS as optional. Also optional are head protecting curtain side air bags. The new features for 2005 include Chrysler’s UConnect system, which uses audio system as hands free link to cell phones and satellite radio.

Powertrain

Standard engine to the 2005 Dodge Dakota include 3.7 liter SOHC V6, which delivers 210 hp of power at 5200 rpm and torque of 235 lb ft at 6000 rpm, while it offers 4.7 liter V8 engine as optional. The V6 engine is mated to 4-speed manual transmission. With the powerful engine equipped, the 2005 Dakota model can achieve 16 mpg in the city premises and 22 mpg on the highway roads.
